Apple Valley is a highly desirable suburban community found in the general vicinity of the twin cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in Minnesota. Apple Valley is considered a part of Dakota County, and is one of the twenty most populous cities in the state of Minnesota. The area which is now considered Apple Valley was originally inhabited by Native Americans, as was the rest of Minnesota and indeed the entirety of North America. Apple Valley was subsequently seceded to the United States through a series of treaties, some more ethically obtained than others, along with the rest of what would become the territory of Minnesota. Apple Valley was originally known as the Lebanon Township, although it was recognized and incorporated as the city of Apple Valley in the year nineteen sixty nine. Since that time, Apple Valley properties have become popular to many commuting residents of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.

Apple Valley covers a total land area of seventeen and one third square miles and two fifths of a square mile of standing surface water for a grand total of just over seventeen and two thirds square miles. The educational needs of Apple Valley are met by Independent School District 196, which encompasses a total of six elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools – Eastview High School, Apple Valley High School, and the School of Environmental Studies.
